Living Positively with HIV/AIDS

Encouragement for HIV+ people in Yola

Workshop provides encouragement and support for people who have tested positive for HIV/AIDS in Adamawa State.

Grace & Light’s Yola volunteers, led by James Usman, ran a Living Positive workshop for 22 people at the end of November in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.

Participants have all previously tested positive for HIV/AIDS during a Grace & Light visit to their churches, have been open with their status and are now in life sharing support groups.

The workshop was their chance to come together, share experiences and encourage each other. Plus James and his team were able to give the latest detailed advice on caring for health, eating well and finding support.

“Many may be the only HIV positive person in their church, so to meet with other people facing the same challenges as themselves is very important. They understand what the others are going through and are able to share coping strategies that have worked for them,” said international coordinator Tassie Ghata.

Grace & Light organised a Living Positive workshop in Jos during August and aims to run three a year in different areas of Nigeria.
