Legacy supports ministry in Nigeria

Grace & Light has received its third legacy, a £2,000 gift given to Pioneers in the will of a retired missionary who had worked in Nigeria.

We have used this gift to fund church visits by our volunteer teams in the first four months of 2017; the gift has covered the costs of transport to towns and villages, refreshments during the trips and HIV test kits.

During the four months, our volunteer teams visited 37 churches in Nigeria and shared the gospel of love, openness and grace with 8,530 people.

In these churches 2,546 chose to be tested for HIV/AIDS and 2,278 chose to join life sharing groups and be open with their status. Twenty-six people tested positive and are now receiving care and medication.

The gift has also had spiritual impact; during our visits 763 people rededicated their lives to Christ and 114 made a first commitment.

Mary, who worked as a missionary in Nigeria for many years and was a trustee of Sudan United Mission (now Pioneers) when she returned to the United Kingdom, left the legacy to Pioneers UK in 2016.

Pioneers trustees felt it was right to invest a portion of this legacy in two Nigerian projects, including Grace & Light. We were honoured to receive Mary’s legacy.

If you would like to remember Grace & Light in your will please contact UK chair of trustees Ed Greening at ed.greening@graceandlight.org or 01225 719 012 and he will explain how to do so.

In most cases your gift to Grace & Light will be exempt from inheritance tax, helping to reduce the tax burden on your loved ones.

Pioneers has a useful section on its website explaining the different types of legacy.
