New programme officer to oversee ministry activities

Pofi Josiah has joined the Grace & Light team to oversee ministry in Nigeria including volunteer teams, life sharing groups and training programmes.

Pofi is our new programme officer based in the national team at our Jos headquarters and has been working with Grace & Light since the beginning of February.

He will be supporting the leaders of our volunteer teams by providing encouragement and accountability as they visit churches for vision sharing, counselling and testing.

Pofi will also support leaders of the many churches that have joined Grace & Light, and their action committees, as they oversee life sharing within their congregations and care for members living with HIV/AIDS. He will be ensuring they receive appropriate care and medication to live healthy lives for longer.

Plus, Pofi will be organising visits by the headquarters ministry team to volunteer teams to encourage and motivate them and also help resolve issues they are facing. And he will be organising refresher training for existing volunteers, action committees and church pastors, along with training for new volunteers.

“I’m delighted to be working with Grace & Light as I now have opportunities to serve Christ and get the gospel out in ways I didn’t with the Christian organisations I worked with previously. Grace & Light is able to do things from outside churches that it is very difficult to do from within,” he explained.

“We can talk openly about social righteousness and that gladdens my heart. Openness is one of the greatest weapons that will help us tackle the illness that is eating deep into our churches.

“My first six weeks have been quite challenging as I have opened myself to the accountability Grace & Light demands of its employees. I’m learning to first check myself and address issues in my life; I can’t talk about social righteousness if I haven’t checked myself first. It is putting me on a great footing for when I take full responsibility for my role.

“Then the first priority for me will be contacting our volunteer teams who are not as active as they were and helping them get back to regularly visiting churches and sharing the gospel. They are our foot soldiers, to succeed as an organisation we need them to be active.

“My second priority is recruiting and equipping new volunteers for existing teams. We are looking for people who have a heart to serve God and local churches. Already we have interest from 25 people and are looking for another 25 before we run our next training week for new volunteers.”

Prior to joining Grace & Light Pofi was a reporter with COCIN’s newspaper Light Bearer and also lectured at COCIN Pastors’ College in Kabwir. His wife Nenpin is a local government civil servant and this month they celebrate nine years of marriage. They have three children, Jessie, 8, Pet-Nan, 5, and 19-month old Josiah.
